Five weeks into his Ironman 70.3 journey, Reggie is starting to find his rhythm—and learning the true meaning of training smart.

In this episode, he shares his experience after completing a blood lactate test, a key step in understanding his personal training zones. The results were eye-opening: too much anaerobic work had dominated his training so far. To optimize performance for a 70.3, Reggie now needs to focus on low-intensity aerobic training to build endurance and improve metabolic efficiency.

But training isn’t just about workouts. Reggie also reflects on the often-overlooked demands of being a triathlete: sleep, recovery, nutrition, and balancing life’s daily tasks. What felt like “10 hours of training” quickly became more like 20 when factoring in stretching, meals, and family responsibilities. It’s a humbling reminder that smart planning is as critical as hard effort.

Despite the challenges, Reggie remains positive and grateful for the learning process. He’s embracing the grind, trusting the process, and taking steps to ensure each session counts.
