ABOUT

Meet Torsten

Coach.
Former professional triathlete.
36+ years in endurance sport.

For more than three decades, endurance sport has shaped my life—not only as an athlete, but as a coach dedicated to helping others discover what they’re truly capable of.

Why I Coach

Coaching has never been about creating faster athletes at any cost. It’s about helping people build confidence through understanding, making better decisions under pressure, and enjoying the process of becoming stronger over time.

Whether I’m working with a first-time triathlete, a busy professional, or a world-class athlete, the process always begins the same way: understand the individual first, then build training that fits their physiology, lifestyle, goals, and ambitions.

The greatest satisfaction isn’t simply seeing athletes cross a finish line. It’s watching them grow in confidence, develop resilience, and discover abilities they didn’t believe they possessed.

THE T3 METHOD

The coaching philosophy behind every T3 athlete.

More than a coaching philosophy, the T3 Method is the framework behind every athlete I coach. Built around Fitness × Attention × Trust, it explains how sustainable performance is developed through purposeful training, thoughtful decision-making, and long-term athlete development.

My Journey

Every coach has a story. Mine began as a teenager who simply wanted to become a better athlete. What started as curiosity eventually became a lifelong pursuit of understanding endurance performance—and helping others achieve more than they thought possible.

The Beginning

I discovered triathlon in 1990 at the age of sixteen. At the time I couldn’t even swim freestyle properly, but I was fascinated by the challenge of combining three sports into one. Without today’s online resources, I learned through books, magazines, experienced athletes, and countless hours of trial and error.

That curiosity eventually earned me a place on the Bavarian Junior Elite Triathlon Squad and laid the foundation for everything that followed.

Learning Around the World

My development continued with the Hong Kong National Triathlon Team, where I worked as a training partner and assistant coach before joining the British Triathlon National Team environment in Bath and later Swansea, Wales.

While studying Sport Science & Development at university, I gained valuable insight into both the science of performance and the practical realities of elite coaching.

Professional Racing

In 2006 I moved to the United States to pursue my professional triathlon career. I competed internationally in ITU World Cups, European Cups, Ironman, and 70.3 events while training alongside many of the world’s best athletes and coaches.

Those experiences taught me lessons that no textbook can provide—how elite athletes prepare, recover, adapt, and perform under pressure.

From Athlete to Coach

As my racing career evolved, coaching naturally became my greatest passion. Since 2006 I’ve worked with beginners, age-group athletes, professionals, World Champions, and Kona qualifiers—helping each athlete reach goals that reflect their own ambitions and lifestyle.

Although every athlete is different, my purpose has remained unchanged: help people train smarter, race with confidence, and enjoy the process of continuous improvement.

From Professional Racing to Personal Coaching

Competing professionally for more than two decades taught me that exceptional performances aren’t built on perfect training plans. They’re built through consistency, patience, curiosity, and making the right decisions—day after day.

Today I combine sports science, physiological testing, and decades of racing experience to help athletes train with clarity, confidence, and purpose. Whether you’re preparing for your first race or chasing a personal best, my goal remains the same: helping you become the strongest athlete you can be—for the long term.

“Performance isn’t built by chasing perfection. It’s built through intelligent decisions, repeated consistently.”

Beyond Results

I’ve been fortunate to compete around the world, stand on professional podiums, and coach athletes to World and National Championship titles, Kona qualifications, and personal best performances. I’m proud of those achievements—but they aren’t what motivate me most.

The greatest reward is watching athletes grow in confidence, overcome self-doubt, and achieve goals they once believed were beyond their reach. Whether that’s completing a first triathlon, qualifying for a championship, or simply enjoying training again, every journey is unique—and every success deserves to be celebrated.

At the end of the day, coaching isn’t measured only by finish times or podiums. It’s measured by the relationships we build, the lessons we learn, and the person an athlete becomes throughout the journey.

Built on Trust

The strongest coaching relationships aren’t built overnight. They’re built through trust, communication, consistency, and a shared commitment to long-term progress.

“I was able to qualify and race at the Ironman World Championship consistently thanks to Torsten’s guidance, friendship and coaching. His attention to detail, thoughtful training plans, and regular communication were key components of my success.”
